2008 Camp Fees

  • General Camp Fee: $150 regardless of how many days you're at Burning Man
  • Food and Beverages: $15 per day (See note below) with a maximum of 8 days (8 days = $120). See Food and Beverage Information for details on what's included.
  • Alcohol / Bar: Not sure yet.  FredB and PaulG will have to provide the details.  See BAR for more info.

  • Food Cost Update 8/15/08:  There is a chance that the daily Food/Beverage fee is going be more than $15/day.  I just started food shopping tonight and was surprised at how much food costs have gone up since last year.  For instance, a 5lb bag of shredded cheddar cheese jumped from $7 last year to $13 this year!  Juice boxes went from $6 for 36 boxes to $9.  I won't know for sure until I'm done buying all the groceries.  If I need to raise the fee, I'll let everyone know.  Just wanted to alert everybody that this is a possibility.

Payment of Camp Fees and Food/Beverages

Payment is due by August 5th.  Please send a check made out to Scott Stauffer for the amount you owe.  Send Scott an email if you need the address to send the checks to.

What is the camp fee used for?

The camp fees are used to pay for the camp infrastructure that is shared among all campers.  $150 may sound like a lot, but due to the small number of campers this year, our budget is going to be tight.  The camp fees cover:

  • 15 Foot Moving Truck
    • The truck is used to carry the carports, showers, bike racks, kitchen coolers, food, bottled water, shower water barrels, trash (on the return trip), etc.  It's also used to carry camper's personal items as long as they're clearly marked with your name.  Note: Bikes are not allowed on the truck because they take up too much room.  You should plan on bringing your bikes up on a bike rack attached to your car.
  • Shower Supplies
  • Trash boxes and disposal fees
  • Building supplies (tarps, carport hardware, etc.)
  • Activity Supplies

The whole purpose of a theme camp is to provide some type of activity or service to the Burning Man community.  Since Fairyland is an arts and crafts theme camp, there are lots of supplies needed for our activities such as:

    • Sock Poi: Tennis balls and tube socks
    • Tutu Thursdays: Tule material for the tutus, alcohol for the drinks
    • Fairy Wings: Wood blocks, plastic wrap
  • Avalon Village Fees ($0 this year)
  • Common Area Lighting ($0 this year)
