-- HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOOD PERMIT DETAILS: HRS AT PLAYA INFO + DEADLINE

-- EARLY ARRIVAL COUNT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2008

Hello from the amped-up Placement team! -

We are in high gear now, and the next few weeks will see us spending lots of time in windowless rooms with big maps of Black Rock City, your questionnaire answers, and your layout and leave no trace plans.

Be sure that you, or someone from your camp is available to take calls between now and August 1st, 'cause email is too slow for this in-the- moment process!

HEALTH DEPT PERMITS

If you are planning to give away food made on the playa to the public, drinks made from fresh squeezed juice, or even snow cones, here's the scoop from Richard Elloyan with the Bureau of Health Protection Services in Carson City, Nevada:

The only application any camp needs is the "Vendor Application for Temporary Food Establishments" found here:

DEADLINE:

Mail: we must have sufficient time to be able to process the application and send back a letter of confirmation .....so, RECEIVED at the Health Division no later than one week before the event - MONDAY AUGUST 18TH. Don't wait till the last minute. It would be a shame to have to cancel your plans, our even risk being cited for a health violation.

In person: no later than FRIDAY AUGUST 22ND - 4150 Technology Way, Suite 300, Carson City, NV phone: (775) 687-7550

On the application, the event coordinator is "Burning Man". Leave the location blank. After mailing registration and $50 USD payment, all anyone needs to do is come and pick up their permit at Playa Info in Center Camp during the following days and hours:

Monday August 25th through Friday August 29th, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM

WE do this so that we can get an accurate address to do inspections.

WE are NOT issuing new permits at Playa Info.

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS: Please refer any one with questions to my number

(775)687-7548 or my email Relloyan@health.nv.gov

EARLY ARRIVAL PROCESS FOR 2008

Read everything:

Burning Man cannot have too many participants on the playa before our gates open to the public Monday August 25, at 12:01 AM.

We are still building the city infrastructure and do not have important safety and sanitation in place yet. We do recognize the significant infrastructure many large (and yes, some small) camps provide, and so we allow camps to have setup crews on site early.

You had a few early arrival choices when you filed your camp questionnaire and accompanying plans between February 15th and May 31st.

They were:

O Before Wednesday 08.20.2008

O Wednesday: 08.20.2008

O Thursday: 08.21.2008

O Friday: 08.22.2008

O Saturday: 08.23.2008

O Sunday: 08.24.2008

This information is in our database and we will be sticking to the choice you already indicated.

If you had early arrivals last year, you may have noticed two significant things:

1) With new barcode passes emailed to camps, our Gate crew was able to process pass holders MUCH more quickly and efficiently. Yay!

2) The Gate opened to the public (non pass holders) at 12:01 AM Monday morning. No one was allowed in early and there were no significant traffic back-ups on the highway. Yay-Yay!!

Yes, this request is happening again before final placement is announced, and some camps requesting their barcode passes will not be placed, and of course, not be receiving passes. We hate disappointing people, really we do. Sometimes we disappoint people we know personally. Not fun. But these are the time constrains we are working under.

SO HERE, AT LAST, IS THE 2008 PROCESS:

Let's say your camp name is "WOBBLY H". Your setup crew is Aung and Kathy, Brian and Amy, and Jeff (5 total), and you have already asked for Tuesday August 21st in your questionnaire, 'cause these five people are building a full-sized monorail.

BEFORE 11:59 PM MONDAY JULY 28TH, send your camp name and early arrival number to

tc-earlyarrivals-2008@burningman.com in your email subject line like

this:

WOBBLY H CAMP - 5 - AUG 21

Q: Will you get ALL the early arrivals you ask for?

A: Limited numbers of early arrivals are at OUR discretion. We will review all requests and determine just how many early arrivers will be approved.

That address again is tc-earlyarrivals-2008@burningman.com . Please don't hit reply to this post, and don't send this info to any other address, so you are sure to get what you need.

Be sure to give us your camp name exactly as it appeared in your questionnaire. Check your email notifier if you are uncertain. We have seen different variations on some camp layout plans, but we are sticking to your camp name as entered on your questionnaire.

Remember, we will be verifying your arrival date against your original questionnaire request. Also know that the barcode passes will have dates on them, and our gate staff will be checking dates, so please do not try to use a pass earlier than it's assigned date.

One final suggestion: if your setup crew is arriving on Sunday, August 24th, we highly recommend scheduling to arrive earlier in the day, rather than later. The earlier and therefore further away from the congestion of our 12:01 AM Monday morning public gate opening, the better.

oh yeah, "SIMON SAYS SEND US YOUR EARLY ARRIVALS"

Giddy-up!
